2013 Will Be a Memorable Year for World-Class Rugby

If you like rugby then 2013 gives a host of opportunities to travel the world watching your favourite sport. The World Sevens series continues all across the globe while one of the game's most anticipated events, the British Lions tour, prepares to head for Australia.

A Favourite Leg of the Sevens Series

The IRB World Series is one of the best events on the rugby calendar but the Hong Kong Sevens is arguably everybody's favourite leg of the entire tour. The country is fanatical about its rugby and this excitement leads to a very special atmosphere during every game.

One of the main advantages of sevens rugby is its fast-paced action and that alone has introduced a whole new audience that favour it over the longer, 15-man version of the sport.

At the Hong Kong Sevens, the best sides and some of the best players from all over the world will travel here. New Zealand are the current champions and will undoubtedly be the pre-tournament favourites but sides such as Australia, England, Wales, Ireland and South Africa are all top exponents of sevens rugby and any of these nations could represent a serious threat to the All Blacks' defence of their crown.

Lions Set to Roar Down Under

The four-year wait is over for fans of the British and Irish Lions as the best players from four nations prepare to head to Australia through June and July. The rugby Lions tour ranks alongside the World Cup as the most anticipated event in the game's calendar but it has a far longer history than the sport's ultimate trophy.

The first combined British Isles side played its first game back in 1888 when Arthur Shrewsbury led an unsanctioned tour to Australia and New Zealand. In time, the rugby Lions were officially recognised by the game's authorities and they now travel to the top countries across the world on a four-yearly basis.

There have been some notable series wins for the side, although recent tours haven't been quite so successful. In 2005, the Lions headed to South Africa and lost the series 2-1 and the last time the squad visited Australia they went down to a powerful Wallaby side by the same score line.

A Full Itinerary

Warren Gatland has been named as coach of the 2013 British and Irish Lions and he will take the side on a packed schedule that includes some of the best rugby destinations and stadiums in the world.

The tour starts in Hong Kong on the 1st of June with a game against the Barbarians before the Lions head to Australia for the first of five further warm-up matches. The three tests in the series will then be held in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.

It promises to be a closely fought contest but the fact that the Lions always concede home advantage could be a deciding factor. Overall, the result could be as close as those recent 2-1 score lines.

2013 offers some world-class rugby as the sevens series travels the globe. The Hong Kong leg of the tournament is arguably the most widely anticipated but the big event in 15-man rugby sees the British Lions head down under to tackle the might of Australia.

Mark Woods is a leading rugby correspondent who has spent the last twenty years writing about the game he loves. A regular at the Hong Kong Sevens, Mark has written for a series of websites and blogs throughout his journalistic career and has a particular interest in the rugby Lions.

Affordable flights - The Basics

Let us be honest. Every one of us had at the very least imagined going abroad, going on for a vacation to simply try to escape from our everyday lives. Sadly, not everybody can afford the regular costs of air travel these days. The cost of flight tickets aren't like what they once were. For this reason, a lot more people will always be looking for inexpensive and low cost flight tickets.

But let us admit it - it really is easier in theory!

Low cost plane tickets are actually hard to get these days. Alright, at this moment take particular notice at the preceding phrase. Observe that the words "hard to get these days" is used. Understand what this means? This means that although affordable flight tickets are difficult to acquire, however it is in fact achievable! In terms of trying to find low-priced flights, you have got to play the hunter.

Metaphorically obviously. You need to devote a little extra work to get your hands on flight tickets which are reasonably priced and match your budget nicely. The bad news is that you simply must quit waiting as well as delaying and get all lazy. What's promising on the other hand is the fact that with adequate work, low-priced air tickets are within your reach!

There are lots of methods for getting inexpensive air tickets!

You heard right! A proper great technique of the trade is to look for methods to save by understanding what makes the cost of air tickets cheaper than usual. Knowing most of these variables, it takes only a little effort to really get those tickets at an affordable price. And no, I don't necessarily mean low cost flights, but real regular class flight tickets which are less expensive than normal!

Listed here are the 4 key factors which make air tickets priced less expensive than usual:
  • Time of year
  • How Early It Is
  • How Late It Is
  • Days of the Week
Since you now are aware of the 4 primary aspects that can be extremely helpful to provide you with cheap air tickets, let us take a good look at each one of them.

Time of the Year

The perfect time of the season for getting cheap flights occurs when it's off-season. This means you will must steer clear of peak periods like throughout the summer months, as well as in close proximity to holidays such as Christmas. Through these times, the cost of the flight tickets are generally hiked up. Yes, this is the way those companies make their money. The greater the demand from customers, the more costly it will become. As a result, you'll have to be ready to travel off-season to obtain flight tickets priced less expensive than normal.

How Early It Is

If you want to to get air tickets at desirable rates which are truly cheaper than their typical price, it is advisable to order the tickets way early in advanced. It is a guaranteed method of getting a good deal on very affordable flight tickets. The cost of the seats would increase when the travel date gets closer. This will make scheduling very early an incredibly smart decision if you wish to get cheap deals.

How Late It Is

No, this isn't intended to confuse you or even to contradict the above mentioned factor. However understand this: people such as yourself that happen to be with limited funds and wishes to find super deals on flight tickets will always be on the hunt to get last minute tickets. Indeed, you can find inexpensive flight tickets simply by booking last minute tickets. Even if you get amazing offers, this particular cheap airlines ticket hunting technique could prove to be a disappointment when it either will not drop to the cost that you would like, or if perhaps there aren't any available seats left.

Days of the Week

With regards to grabbing inexpensive air tickets, it is advisable to reserve over the weekdays rather than the saturdays and sundays. This is due to ticket prices are higher priced through the weekends, a time when the majority of people wishes to travel.

Cheap air tickets help you save in the long run!

Make sure to survey around to find the best rates attainable. A number of travel companies will be able to provide you with much better discounts than others. You can also look over the internet for travel discount vouchers and voucher codes that may help you get cheap deals!

Bon voyage!

Three Hints on how to cope with flying when you’re going on a cruise

Most people don’t associate Cruises with flying. It’s understandable, how can you fly when you’re in the middle of the sea? Quite clearly you can’t, yet there’s a growing trend in the world of cruising towards something called “Fly-Cruises”. Sound a bit complicated? Don’t worry it’s not. It simply means that rather than heading to your nearest port to catch whatever cruises are available, you jump on a plane to the area you want to cruise around and then get on the ship. Simples really!

The growth of this type of cruising though means that there are new issues to be dealt with. After all, catching a plane to another country can be complicate din itself. Throw in a cruise time table and everything becomes very messy very quickly if you aren’t prepared!
To help with these problems, here are three relatively easy and simple tips for you to consider before jetting off to foreign shores:

1      1)      Pack your bags carefully and only bring what you need.

We’ve all been there. Struggling to close our suitcases due to taking too much stuff and having to make that agonising decisions about whether our favourite shirt or dress is with taking out to fit in our toiletries. Normally this isn’t an issue with cruises. There aren’t any weight limits, and you can just shove everything in your car, park up at the cruise terminal long term parking hop aboard with your stuff and you’re sorted! Fly-cruises mean you have to get on a plane though, and that means there are weight limits. So what do you bring?

Here’s where you need to do some research, as it all boils down to bringing only what you need, and what you know you’ll wear. You may love your favourite hoody, but if you’re cruising the Caribbean are you really going to wear it? Answer: No. Take it out of the suitcase. Make sure you pack for the climate of the place you’re going. I’ve been on cruises where I’ve seen middle aged men wearing Hawaiian shirts; fine if it’s the Mediterranean in the middle of summer, not so good when it’s around the Baltic Sea at Christmas.

The second thing to consider when packing for your fly cruise is what sort of cruise is going on? Take a look at this picture.  Seems quite swanky doesn’t it? It is, and if you’re travelling on the ship that dining room is on, you need to have smart clothes (we’re talking Top hat and tails smart, not just a tucked in t -shirt and a tie). So make sure you do some research on the cruise line and look into what sort of dress code they have. Some cruise lines, like NCL, are really relaxed about dress code and couldn’t care less, others are stricter. So do some research on the cruise lines and find out whether you need to pack a suit. After all, why bother bringing one if you aren’t going to need it?

1       2)      Consider booking your flight so you’re in the country of departure a few days before you need to get on the cruise.

One of the downsides of cruises is that you might not get the opportunity to see as much of a place as you would otherwise like. With only a day (or two if you’re lucky) to spend you’re almost certain to miss out on something.  So why not consider flying out a few days before you’re due to set sail?

Fly-Cruises let you start your vacation somewhere exotic, so why not take the time to actually explore the city you’ll start your journey from? You still won’t see everything, but a few busy days of tourist activities will mean you’ll appreciate the luxury of your cruise ship that much more as you kick back and relax on the deck side pool.

The other issue that flying in early can solve is the risk of flight delays meaning you miss the cruise. Can you imagine that? Forking out all that money on a cruise only for some bad weather, dodgy engine or something birds on the run way making you miss the cruise? It doesn’t bear thinking about, so why take the risk? Fly in early, enjoy the sites and casually make your way to the ship when the departure date arrives. Genius!

1     3)      Book the flights yourself. Don’t go with the cruise line.

When it comes to fly cruises there are two options. Do you book the flights yourself or do you let the cruise lien you’re travelling with do it? Answer? It depends. Personally I prefer to do it myself. It works out cheaper ( the cruise lines will put you with a company like British Airways even if a cheaper Easy jet Flight is available) and gives you the opportunity to explore the city you’re leaving from.

There are strong arguments to letting the cruise lines handle the flights however. For instance, my advice of arriving early and sating a few days before the cruise assumes you’ve got the money to do so. If you don’t then going with the cruise lines is the best way forward. You’ll arrive on the same day as the cruise, but often transport to the cruise terminal will be provided. There’s also the added insurance that if the worst happens and your plane is delayed  and you might miss getting onto the cruise ship on time, they’ll either delay the departure of the ship ( if you’re on a charter flight they’ve specifically booked) or provide you with flights to one of the other ports where you can board the ship later on in the cruise.

36 Hours in Delhi

Delhi has been the seat of power for a large part of its history. Right from the days of the Mughal and Lodi dynasties and the British rule, Delhi has been, and still is, the capital of India. Owing to the rich history and the consistent ramp-up of tourism initiatives, Delhi has become a tourist hub. The resident art and culture enthusiasts ensure that Delhi is at the top of the creative, art and cultural scene. Delhi and surrounding towns such as Agra and Jaipur has plenty to offer for tourists. However, Delhi has everything for everyone, even for the discerning traveller who has only 36 hours to spend in the capital city.

Art Scene:

Grab a bite of India’s art scene in various art galleries such as Nature Morte, Talwar Gallery, Aryan Art Gallery, Palette Art Gallery etc. These art galleries are located in close proximity to each other. Do check local listings for an updated schedule of art exhibitions.

Humayun’s Tomb:

An early example of Mughal architecture, the Humayun’s Tomb was built in the 1560s for the second Mughal emperor, Humayun. The tomb boasts of architecture akin to that of the Taj Mahal. The surrounding gardens are elaborate and have the ruins of the sandstone tombs, gate and a mosque.

Old Glory:

Best experienced in the early hours of the morning. Old Delhi offers plenty for the soul of the proverbial traveller. The 17th -Century Red Fort is a national monument and is the site for events of national and international importance. Traditional crafts can be found in Kinari Bazaar, a crafter’s paradise. Here, you will find everything from haberdasheries, bead shops and bright red turbans.

Fashion:

The latest from the ramps of India’s very best in fashion in Lodi Colony main market. Designers such as Rajesh Pratap Singh and Manish Arora have collections that will fill up spaces in your luggage.

Food:

The Basant Lok Market is a bustling shopping center in Vasant Vihar. A Punjabi restaurant that goes by the name Punjabi by Nature stocks the best food and drinks. Some as unique as Vodka Gol Gappa Apertif, the Tandoor Roasted Lamb, the Fish Tikka. The vegetarians can indulge their taste buds with Tandoor Roasted Broccoli. Swagath Restaurant in Defence Colony serves unique southern sea food dishes such as squid in butter garlic sauce and Chettinad-style prawns. A dessert run is much advised along the India Gate area where cotton-candy in the environs of a calm evening breeze make for a perfect setting.

There’s more to do in Delhi than what is mentioned above however, for 36 hours, this will give you a pretty good taste of the city.

Delhi is one of Asia’s most important cities and is easily connected the world over. The Delhi International Airport attracts Flights To Delhi from most connections across India.

Seven Tips to Make a Fabulous Vacation More Affordable

I don't know about you, but I don't always have the money to go on an awesome vacation every year. I either have to save my pennies and travel less often or compromise on the quality of the vacation – and I've learned the hard way that it's better to stay at a resort every three or four years than it is to check into a budget hotel where the roaches outnumber the people in order to afford a vacation every single year.

Over time, I have found a few ways to make travel more affordable more often. Just because you don't have a million-dollar bank account doesn't mean you can't have a million-dollar lifestyle…at least while you're on vacation!

1. Stay domestic. You might have dreams of being a global jet-setter, but if you stay closer to home, you'll save a ton of money. Domestic flights are less expensive, you won't have to pay for a passport, and even hotels can be less expensive, depending on the exchange rate.

2. Eat lunch at the hotel. Want to be able to afford dinners at four-star restaurants? Skip expensive lunches. Even grabbing sandwiches or salads can be expensive at cafes and lunch locations, so instead book a hotel with a refrigerator and go grocery shopping. Stock the hotel room with lunchmeat, bread, yogurt, and other foods that you can eat before heading out to enjoy the afternoon wherever you're vacationing.

3. Twitter and Facebook are your friends. Social media sites, like Twitter and Facebook, are wonderful for saving money while planning a vacation. Many hotels offer coupons and special deals for fans and followers.

4. Choose an offbeat location. You can get a lot more bang for your buck if you choose a destination that's off the beaten path. Instead of Aspen for a ski vacation, try the beautiful mountains in the northeastern United States, for example.

5. Check out all-inclusive resorts or cruises. Often, it's cheaper if you go to a resort or on a cruise where everything is included. Some even include tips and drinks in your bottom-line price. In addition to being cheaper (in some cases), knowing exactly how much you'll spend down to the penny make it easier for budgeting.

6. Travel during the off season. You can get cheaper rates if you travel during the vacation off-season wherever you go. Remember, an off-season in one location is the busiest time for another location, so you can find somewhere with off-season prices no matter when you want to travel! As an added bonus, hospitality staff members will treat you better during the off-season, since tips are not as plentiful.

7. Plan a stay-cation…in style. Lastly, during years when you can't afford vacations, plan some relaxing time at home instead, away from work. Stay-cations certainly don't sound luxurious, but they can be. Splurge to stay in a hotel, even if it is in your hometown, or hire a cleaning service to take care of your home completely to make it feel special and explore restaurants that you've never visited rather than eating at old haunts. You can even stock your house with special bath products, candles, and other little touches to keep it feeling fresh and more like a vacation.
